Moving on...

Southern California is an amazing place to live.  It has been such a blessing to Zac and I.  We have made unforgettable memories and made life-long friends.  If the cost of living wasn't to darn expensive, I would stay here forever! The downside of living here was being so far away from family.  However, when your family is far away, the church becomes your family.  And how true is that living anywhere? However, we had not ever experienced it until we moved here because since we were married we always lived by family.

We knew this was not going to be a permanent move.  We didn't know when or where we would move.  But we knew that we would eventually.  And now the big news... Zac and I will be moving out of Southern California at the beginning of September.  Zac was offered a new job in... *drum roll please*....Logan, UT.  He will be working for a company called UK2 and will be able to focus solely on Affiliate Marketing.  I will be able to work as a hair stylist (because the process isn't so darn long and frustrating).  This is a good move for us and we look forward to starting in a new place... again! This will be our 2nd move to a new state as a married couple and our 6th move total in our short 3.5 years of marriage (we are pros by now... at moving, not the marriage thing).

California has been so good to us.  It has given us many opportunities that I don't think we could have had anywhere else.  Especially opportunities for growth.  Zac was able to start his career right out of college.  He was able to learn and grow so much in the online marketing world.  I worked as a nanny and was able to watch 2 beautiful boys (5 years and 2 years) I worked for a wonderful family who treated me as another member of their family and a friend instead of an employee, which I so badly needed living here without family.  I'm so sad to be leaving them.

Even though we only lived here for a year and a half, we experienced many changes (mostly in the church).  6 months into us living here, the ward we were in was disbanded... they split our ward and then merged us with 2 other wards.  We had to change buildings and get to know new people again?! Zac was put in the Elders Quorum and I was made a Primary teacher.  We were able to jump right in and get to work in this new ward.  About 6 months later, there was another... BIG change.  They were merging the youth and the primary children with our primary and youth and the spanish wards primary and youth, but everyone else was separate... what! i had never seen this done or even heard of this being done before.  I was teaching at that time and it was such a struggle.  I taught the young kids and many of them didn't speak english.  Fortunately, most did, so they were able to serve as interpreters.  I was only a teacher for a short time and then another BIG change, Primary Presidency- hardest calling of my life! there is so much that goes into primary.  who would have thought? I was very humbled and grateful for this opportunity to learn and grow!  Right after that, they changed the bishopric and called the Elders Quorum President to the new bishopric.  Uh oh... that left an opening as the Elders Quorum President...you guessed it.  Zac.  He handled his calling with much more grace and finesse than I ever did.  These changes made me realize that we really can't plan out our lives.  Heavenly Father has a plan for each of us and we get to learn how to be flexible because things aren't going to always go how we want them to (tough lesson to learn!)

Zac and I were given leadership callings in the church and we learned patience (a lot of patience!!) We learned all about service.  There were soooo many opportunities for service down here it absolutely amazed me!I learned to be able to love freely without having to truly know a person and without judging them first.  I was able to see people through our Heavenly Father's eyes and it is AMAZING. I learned leadership skills and how to prioritize. I learned that each of us is a child of God and he loves us so much.  I felt his love for me and I felt his love for the children, teachers, and parents of the Primary.  What a wonderful blessing that calling was for me! It is so good to be able to go back to the gospel basics.  Some of you may be thinking... duh Caitie?  We have known this since we were in Primary!  Yes, I know...  I guess I just needed to be reminded.  I learned how to speak my mind without it being confrontational! Those who know me know that I HATE anything that could potentially turn confrontational.  If I think it can be confrontational, I run, and I shut my mouth, and I let everyone else duke it out.  If you say what you need to say with love, it will be taken out of love and not turn ugly.  I learned how to say NO. Which goes back to non-confrontational Caitie- just say yes all the time and no one will ever be mad at you... ya ok... then you just run yourself ragged and burn out way too fast and hate yourself for not being able to say no... vicious cycle!!

Our marriage has been truly strengthened as we have had to turn to each other and rely on each other to figure things out.  From cockroches, to clogged sinks that fill up with water, to buying our first car together and the stick shift chain breaking before we got it home, to buying another car that has been a much better experience, to many other challenges and problems that we were able to figure out together.

We have been so blessed by all of these experiences and lessons we have learned.  We are so sad to be leaving our friends and California weather! But we are so excited for a new adventure in Utah where we also have many friends and also family members- still trying to get excited about the cold and the snow though... brrrr!

Hm... Where to start?

It's been a million years since I have written on my blog! I feel like I never have anything mind blowingly exciting to tell! But, lately I have come to realize that it's ok to not have super exciting things happening ALL the time! So, I'm going to use my blog as a journal.  It's not going to be a super intimate details of my life journal, (I have a journal for those moments) but a more general one to use as an outlet.  There is sooooo much going on in life right now I just want to document it.
Goal #1: Starting today Im going to be better about blogging mostly for my benefit and the benefit of my family so they can know what's going on in my life without having to call every single person and tell them for a couple hours at a time... I'm a talker!! Lol

That's where I'm going to start for now :) one goal at a time! I tend to get over zealous about things and then set myself up for failure because I set too many goals. Goal #2: Don't set too many goals....oops!

Family!!

So I never posted about my family's trip to California and its been so long now I don't remember exactly what we did on what day... But here goes.

We went back to the Mormon battalion visitors center. Hayden got to dress up as a member of the battalion. So cute! They took our picture at the end. We had to cram for the picture but we all fit!

We went to the Maritime museum in San Diego right on the harbor (it's 5 ships that they have turned into museums and they were super fun to walk in and look at old artifacts and read stories of the people who lived on these ships! They had wax people in the ships... Those I could have done without... Creepy!

We went to the San Diego temple on our way back up to LA. Zac and I had never stopped there and my family had never been so we made a pit stop ;) It's my favorite temple! I'm so grateful for temples and that families can be together forever!

Go Dodgers! We got to go to a dodgers game too! Good baseball, good cheering, good family, and good ballpark food... ;) We got t-shirts to wear to the game and it was free hat night at Dodgers stadium so we were all sporting our Dodgers gear. p.s. they won!

We went to Disneyland and California adventure.. But we were too busy having fun I didn't get any pics!

We met up with the Nielsen family who moved out here from Indiana. It was so good to see them! We spent the fourth of July with them and grilled out. The next day we went to the beach... It was freezing! But still so fun!!!

Lucky Taryn got to spend her birthday down here so we made sure to make it a special day for her ;) We went to Red Lobster for dinner and had a cookie cake for dessert after she opened her presents.

We had a fun-filled week. Constant go go go! It was so good to see all of them and I'm so excited for my next visit to Indiana in November ( for 2 weeks!)

New news for Zac and I... Our fridge broke last week and we ended up having to buy a new one. Yep, we put our big kid pants on and went to the store picked one out and they delivered it yesterday... It's times like these that I wish I didn't have to be a grown up...
Also, I got a job!!! I'm a nanny and it's the best job ever! Perfect hours, perfect kids, perfect pay! Gotta love jobs that don't feel like jobs ;)
We are coming to Idaho in September for a week and are super excited.
That's all the news for us!
P.S. sorry about all the spelling typos and punctuation problems... I'm doing this from my phone and it's more difficult for me than doing it on my computer.
Love to all!! Until next time (when I have something exciting to blog about).

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!!!!

So this past weekend was Memorial Day and we were so grateful for a three day weekend.  We took a little mini vacation down to San Diego.  Friday night we drove down to San Juan Capistrano and stayed the night with Zac's sister and her husband.  We went to dinner at a delicious pizza place and met some of their friends and just visit. It was so fun to be able to see them.
Saturday we headed down to San Diego to make a day of it.  We started out at Kobey's Swap Meet.  We have been before and we absolutely love it!  They have everything there! It's so fun just to walk around and look at all the cool stuff.  We spent a couple hours there and then headed to The Mormon Battalion Visitors Center.  We found this while researching different things to do in San Diego and it was #3 on the list.  Crazy!  I had no idea this was down there.  It was absolutely interesting and definitely very humbling.  If you are ever down in San Diego I highly recommend going.  It was a great piece of American and Church history.  It only takes 35 minutes of your time too.  After that we decided to go on a 2 hour Harbor Cruise.  It was very fun! However, kinda pricey for the amount of things you see...  Maybe our expectations were too high but the website said that we would see 50 plus sites in San Diego so we thought this would be an awesome way to see them all.  That wasn't the case.  However it was very fun for a one time thing and the best parts of the cruise were the sea lions (they were so cute!), and the Coronado Bridge which extends from San Diego to Coronado Island over the ocean.  We have driven on it before but this cruise took us under it and we were able to see the giant concrete posts holding this bridge in the air from the ocean floor.  Amazing.  Believe it or not those 3 activities took us all day.  But all were very fun.  Sunday we woke up and Zac's sister made us delicious pancakes and we washed our car and just hung out and talked with her.  We left later that afternoon to come home.  On Monday, we did some shopping but mostly just relaxed and got ready for today!
We had a well needed long weekend. We hope you all had a wonderful weekend as well celebrating a wonderful day of the year that we are able to think about the men and women who have fought, are fighting, and will fight for our country and our freedom.  Thank you to all those who are serving our wonderful country.
Have a good week everybody!

California!!!!

Well, I wish I was better at this whole blogging thing... We have been in California for about 3.5 months now and we could not love it more.  You have to look past the cost of living, taxes, and gas prices.  Other than that though it's amazing!  The weather is ALWAYS warm, our ward family is so welcoming and kind,  we live 2 miles from the beach, and all the shopping you could even imagine is right across the street.  Although we have all kinds of shopping across the street we seem to do most of our shopping online these days as you can get so many things for so much cheaper than stores!!
Zac is still loving his job with Murad and is becoming more efficient in his work.  I have taken to cooking and have fallen in love!  I follow several blogs and exchange recipes with my sister in law and I'm finally getting better at trying new recipes and also altering them to fit our needs.  It's been so fun!
I have also just found out that my family is coming to visit us in 1.5 months!! (June 30th-July 7th).  I am so excited to see them as I haven't seen them since Taryn's wedding back in September.  There is so much to do down here... so we will be super busy that week :)
We are going to San Diego over Memorial Day weekend!  We aren't quite sure what we are going to do down there yet, but we love San Diego! It's so beautiful there.
One last thing... I would like to give a shout out to my momma.  She is a wonderful woman and I'm so grateful to have her as my mother as she is the best mother in the world (i'm not biased though).  She has taught me many wonderful things in life and I'm so grateful for her example.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful Monday!

I love my husband

Ok this blogging thing is hard to keep up! But I'm gonna try to be better! So this last week was Thanksgiving. I am grateful for so many things in my life. At the top of the list is of course family. Im so grateful for my family. So grateful for my in laws and for taking me into their home during this difficult of married life. ( for those who dont know, Zac has been living in California since August). And most importantly I'm thankful for my wonderful loving husband. He had been such a support to me and I'm so grateful for him. He was able to come home the Wednesday before thanksgiving and stay till Sunday morning. (better than nothing though ) we had a wonderful break with family. I wanted to wait to blog about it until after he had already left this morning so as not to take time away from him ;) So Zac got a job working for the skin care company Murad located in El Segundo, CA. He us doing so well and loves his job. (I love it too for all the free products!) ;) I am finishing cosmetology school in Rexburg and will be heading down to live withy husband again in February, and it could not come fast enough. ;) hope everyone had a happy thanksgiving with family and friends!
